How fossils can help us to reconstruct large-scale patterns of evolution

FossilDr Marcello Ruta, our NERC Research Fellow in Paleobiology has a paper coming out soon in the journal Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology.

His research explores the potential of exhaustive databases based on the fossil record for our understanding of changing patterns of biodiversity through geological time, particularly around the time of mass extinctions. It also allows for an assessment of the quality and adequacy of palaeontological data, and examines how useful fossils are in the reconstruction of large-scale patterns of evolution.
